John Ragsdale

Born about 1818 in the Guilford area of Caswell County
North Carolina. As a boy, he and his brothers may have moved
to the Springfield area of Robertson County Tennessee and
lived with their grandfather for a time. As a young man he moved
on to the Conway - Perry County Arkansas area in the late 1830's
along with two brothers William Ragsdale and Thomas Ragsdale.
John farmed in the Griffin Township area of Perry County for a
short time and then moved on to the Sulpher Springs Township
area of Montgomery County Arkansas about 1850. There he took
as his wife Elizabeth Campbell Shipman born about 1826. They
were married just after 1850 and made their living as farmers.
The children of John and Elizabeth Ragsdale were,

John Stephen Ragsdale
Born July 6th 1852.

Fanny Melissabeth Ragsdale
Born 1853.

John Ragsdale
Born 1855.

Jarrett Melton Ragsdale
Born January 7th 1856.

Jane Ragsdale
Born 1858.

John also helped raise Elizabeth's children
from her marriage to Edward Shipman.

John may have also been married to someone
before and had a daughter named Rebecca.

and is buried in an unmarked grave in an unknown location.
